Transcribe voice notes from your phone

At Reflect, when we prioritize our roadmap, we do it through the lens of our four product values : speed, security, reliability, less is more. With this February release we’ve hit at least three of these with performance, security ux, and reliability improvements across the board.

Transcribe voice notes from your phone

Reflect's February update

Building a note-taking app that feels just right is really hard, why is that?
Simply put, everyone’s needs are slightly different because everyone thinks slightly differently. For example, some people don’t even have an inner-monologue!
If you’re not careful, your product roadmap can fly around like a leaf in the wind. You try to please everybody, but you end up pleasing nobody. The end result: frankenstein software.
So, in the face of this, what’s to be done? We think the answer is a principles based roadmap. At Reflect, when we prioritize our roadmap, we do it through the lens of our four product values : speed, security, reliability, less is more.
With this February release we’ve hit at least three of these with performance, security ux, and reliability improvements across the board.
It’s always a fine balance between adding new features and improving existing ones. I think we hit it this month!

✨ New features

🎙️ Record voice notes on the mobile app
Reflect’s mobile app now lets you record and transcribe voice notes through Whisper - a new technology that provides near human level accuracy. It’s great for capturing that fleeting idea, or recording a reflection at the end of the day from your bed.
To access on mobile:
  1. Tap on the plus sign in the top right corner of your notes
  1. Select “Transcribe audio” and tap on the red record button
  1. Speak your note, then stop the recording
  1. Your note will be uploaded and then transcribed in the background. After a few seconds the transcription will be added to your daily note.

The ability to record on the browser and desktop app already exists. Just tap on the microphone (next to the search box), in the top left corner.
We have also made audio processing six times faster, so you’ll see them added to your daily-note before you can say Bob's your uncle.

🔐 Automatic password recovery kits

Reflect prioritizes security through end-to-end encryption. But we understand that sometimes, passwords get lost. Reflect now has recovery kits automatically download upon signup – making encryption much less scary.
If you’ve already signed up, you can download your own recovery kit in your graph settings.

🏃‍♂️ Performance improvements

🔎 Search your notes like never before
The quality of our notes and thoughts fundamentally depends on how well they can be recalled. Reflect’s overhauled search function is immeasurably fast, and sets a new bar for recalling your notes.

💪 More robust app performance
Memory on the desktop and mobile apps has been drastically improved. You should see a big decrease in how long it takes the app to start up, as well as a significant drop in crash instances.

🛠️ Some notable fixes and repairs:
  • Import issues with large note files
  • A bug that was stopping offline mode from working
  • An issue with deleted calendars
  • Tooltip hover issue while typing

What's coming next?

  • Readwise integration - this has been in the works for a while, but we are in the final stages of testing.
  • Performance improvements!
  • We are revamping the behavior of lists – boring but important
